2018 Travel Year In Review

As I write this, I’m sitting on a vegan cafe in Bacalar, Mexico. This morning, I paddleboarded across the Bacalar Lagoon to watch the sun rise. I feel whole. I’ve been travelling Mexico solo for the last week–something that, one year ago, I never would have imagined myself doing. Heck, two years ago I was convinced I HATED solo travel. But 2018 was a year of growth: growth in my relationship with Daniel, growth in my personal (and educational and professional) goals, and yes, growth in my love for solo travel. 2018 wasn’t easy. It wasn’t a year where the good news outweighed the bad, or...

The Best Copenhagen Day Trip: Frederiksborg Castle & Kronborg Castle

The Best Copenhagen Day Trip: Frederiksborg Castle & Kronborg Castle

Want to visit two different castles in one day? This awesome Copenhagen day trip takes you to both Frederiksborg Castle and Kronborg Castle in just a few hours! I loved Copenhagen so much the first time I went that I agreed to go back at a time that wasn’t exactly convenient (right before my exams). But, it being my second time there, I also knew that I wanted to explore a little further afield by taking a Copenhagen day trip. The day trip also needed to be something that Megan would love since it was her first trip to Copenhagen and I knew it would be hard to pull her away from the city....

Hygge Tour Copenhagen // How to Find Hygge in Copenhagen with Urban Adventures

Cute colorful houses in Nyboder Copenhagen

Urban Adventures hosted Megan and me as guests in exchange for my honest review of their Hygge & Happiness tour. As always, all opinions are my own. When my friend and former flatmate Megan was convincing me to come to Copenhagen with her at the beginning of December, she only had to say one word: hygge. So this time around, I was determined to actually experience some hygge at whatever cost. And so, me being me (aka a person who has a weird love...

A bird's eye view of Lisbon, Portugal

Planning on spending two weeks in Portugal? Here is the perfect two week Portugal itinerary for first-timers. When I first started planning my trip to Portugal I was totally overwhelmed by all of the places there were to go. Not only were there all of the obvious choices like Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve, but just a quick flip through my Lonely Planet guidebook let me know that there was a lot more of Portugal to uncover. From beautiful beaches to wineries to amazing hikes, it seemed like Portugal really did have it all. In the end, I ended up choosing four places that I was really...

Portugal on a Budget // What I Spent in 2 Weeks in Portugal

A lemon tree peeking over a wall in Obidos, Portugal

Think you have to head to Eastern Europe to travel Europe on a budget? Think again! It’s super easy to travel to Portugal on a budget. I like to say that I travel during spring break because it would be cheaper than buying a plane ticket home. And while that might not be technically true, using the money that I would have spent on a plane ticket to travel instead is something that I happily do. That being said, I’m pretty sure traveling Portugal on a budget for two weeks actually was cheaper than a plane ticket home. In total, I spent €888.23 over TWO WEEKS (16 days) including fights,...

Addie in Salzburg, Austria

Hi, I’m Addie!

Two years ago, I moved across the pond from small-town Illinois to the UK to attend university. Now I’m doing my best to see as much of Europe as I can while I’m here.
